Aside

So Tired after two days of snowboarding, but SO glad my health has improved enough to be ABLE to snowboard!

Last night I made my daily trip to Sprouts Market. I love this place, tons of organic choices and huge selection of supplements, bigger than even the vitamin shoppee. I love the bulk bins. I’m experimenting with making my own protein powder since they sell plain whey protein by the pound. I haven’t found any protein powder in any store that doesn’t have an ingredient list as long as my arm filled with fake sugar and real sugar. My protein shakes take two forms, one that requires perishable ingredients (Preferred, healthy version) for when I am at home and have time to prepare, and one that comes from a powder that I can take on the road:

Protein Shake (Perishable):

  • 4 egg whites
  • ½ cup Greek yogurt
  • 1 TBS nut butter
  • 1 Cup Flax Milk or other milk
  • 1 tsp. coco powder

25-30 Grams of Protein, about 275 calories

Protein Shake powder

  • 20 grams whey protein isolate (about a TBS)
  • 2 TBS dried milk powder
  • 1.5 Cups Flax Milk or other milk

25-30 Grams Protein, about 225 calories – not as yummy but it fills you up!

Not feeling so good these last couple of days, fighting a cold and still battling the constant gas. Just all around worn down and tired. This makes me want to eat more carbs which gives my more gas and makes me more tired…Am I Missing something here?

Promote Good Bacteria, Kill the Bad Guys!

I’ve read loads of evidence in support of taking a really good Probiotic to help with the symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). I’ve been taking one that claims 90 billion live and active cultures (at the time of manufacture). I’ve also been brewing my own kombucha and I’m drooling over this yogurt maker. But I recently read a great pamphlet written by Dr. Karen Vieina Guts 2 Glory. It lays out 6 life long changes to cure IBS. So far I have been doing almost everything right! it only served as a great confirmation and summary that I am indeed on the right track. It says the 3 strands for probiotic that are most important are: L. acidophilus, L. bulgaricus and S.thermophilus all of which are present in the type of yogurt that takes 24 hours to ferment at 100-110 degrees.

HOWEVER – I also need to kill the bad bacteria with a natural antibiotic. Luckely I got a jump start on this two weeks ago when I took a perscription antibiotic for my UTI. But pharmasuctical grade antibiotics are too powerful and end up wiping out ALL bacteria, good and bad. So to maintain the good and fight off the bad taking natural oils, at least 2 hours after taking a probiotic, is proven to be effective. The recommended “antifungals” are:

Oil of Oregano, Olive Leaf Extract, Peppermint Oil.

I’m excited to get home from Atlanta, stop by People’s and pick up these antifungals!

Park City in Just three days! I SO hope I’m feeling good, although its been so hit or miss. Either way, going to tear up that mountain!
